Sound and image are equally important in the works of Tomasz Szumiński. Man is the primary theme of his many and various sculptures. Expressed in these works are the laws which govern life and transcendence. They are legible for what is inherent in them: the artist's poetic imagination and his very personal reflections on the dimensions of human endeavor and the meaning of human existence. They are imbued with his memories of hildhood and his family home, his own moods, emotions, dreams, and musical fascinations.
Tomek Szumiński's two-dimensional and spatial tapestries are full of nostalgia and mystery. They prompt us to reflect upon the essence of silence and the emotion that is inherent in music. For this artist, music is the most beautiful of the arts. Music cannot be touched nor seen, it has no identifiable shape nor color. Tomasz Szumiński uses the language of the visual arts to describe music's charm, uniqueness, pulse and vibration. He does so by weaving works which are reflective and permeated with feeling. These virtuoso interpretations result in something exceptional, something that mesmerizes through metaphorical vision, through a mood that is clearly impressionistic.
The art of Tomasz Szumiński is a singular, lyrical discussion of life, our everyday experiences, human cultural traditions, it is a discussion about the world which exists along with us.
